• Install your mail slot at the correct height of at least 30 inches above the floor. Make it easy for the postal carrier to access the mail slot by not positioning it too high or too low. 
• When adding an interior hood to the mail slot for enhanced privacy, make sure the hooded portion is not below the bottom of the outside plate and that the hood doesn't project more than 2 and 1/16 of an inch beyond the inside of the door.
