Rabbits can make wonderful pets but a wild population invading your yard can cause immense damage that you'll want to avoid. Here at Ace, we stock all the products you need to keep the critters under control, including rabbit repellent, bait, and traps.

What Problems Do Rabbits Cause?

Although rabbits are renowned burrowers, their excavations don't tend to cause as much damage as those from moles and gophers. Nevertheless, if they decide to burrow under your lawn, they'll cause sunken areas and brown patches if the tunnel network becomes too large.

More commonly, their droppings can scorch grass and other plants, as well as introduce similar health risks as droppings from mice, rats and other rodents. However, arguably the worst damage caused by rabbits is through their feeding, where they feast on live plants, fruits and newly planted seeds and bulbs, often stripping an entire area in just an hour or two.

Deter Hungry Rabbits with Rabbit Repellent

Rabbit repellent is based on natural substances that smell and taste bad to rabbits and other small animal pests, encouraging them to explore more enticing surroundings. Available in liquid or granule form, rabbit repellent is ideal for creating a boundary around your yard or treating areas with a lot of rabbit activity.

For the greatest level of protection, use rabbit repellent and netting around particularly vulnerable plants. Even if rabbits arrive, they'll focus on easier targets to feed their appetite.

7 Steps to Using Rabbit Traps

If rabbit repellent isn't effective at keeping the animals from your yard, capturing and relocating them using rabbit traps is a proven solution, especially if the number of rabbits is relatively low. It is important to note that you should check your local laws to see if and how live catch and release is permissible. If so, knowing how to use live traps well is highly important. Here's what to do:

  1. Select your live trap from our range of options, with an even wider selection in our dedicated animal traps
  2. Place the trap in areas of high rabbit activity, generally along hedge or fence lines rather than in the open. Rabbit traps are best positioned where they're lightly hidden by tall grass or undergrowth yet still visible for easy checking.
  3. Add rabbit bait to the trap according to the instructions supplied, using either a commercial lure product, regular rabbit food or simply raw vegetables and fruits.
  4. After you set the trap, test the trigger to ensure the doors close correctly; reset it to be ready for the rabbit.
  5. Check the trap often, remembering that trapped rabbits can quickly become starved and dehydrated. Replace any uneaten rabbit food every few days to prevent spoilage.
  6. Once a rabbit has been caught, transport it a couple of miles from your home before releasing it in an area deemed legal by local laws and regulations.
  7. Clean and disinfect the trap before using it again, both to remove scents and to prevent any disease or infection from spreading.
