Bare steps, stairs and ramps can create a genuine danger of slipping and falling, especially when they're wet. Our anti-slip tape section includes the products you need to increase safety in any area where slips or slides could cause serious injury, whether it's in a public space or your own home.

What is Grip Tape?

Also known as anti-slip tape, grip tape is a durable, thick tape with strong adhesive on one side and a textured surface on the other. For heavy-duty outdoor use, an abrasive texture is created using grit of various sizes, which provides excellent slip prevention in all weather.

However, this kind of tread tape isn't suitable for areas where people often go barefoot, such as pool sides, boat decks or bathtub steps. For these uses, a gentler texture made of dimpled plastic is more comfortable, although it provides slightly less grip.

Waterproof Anti-Slip Tape for Outdoor Use

Outdoor steps and decks made from lumber can easily become slippery in the rain or if mildew is allowed to grow. When choosing anti-slip tape for outdoor use, make sure it's rated as both waterproof and mold- and mildew-resistant to ensure a long-lasting grip without slipperiness or staining.

Safer Ladders with Adhesive Tread Tape

Adhesive tread tape can also be added to ladder rungs to provide greater grip and reduced risk of accidents. In this case, choose a tape with a high grip rating for maximum protection, but with a low profile to keep any tripping risk to a minimum. Also, look for tape with high durability and a strong backing adhesive to stand up to heavy use.

How to Install Anti-Slip Tape

For long-lasting safety, tread tape should be carefully installed using the following steps:

  1. Clean the stairs or ramp thoroughly using a suitable detergent to remove all grease and grime.
  2. Rinse with a wet sponge and leave to dry completely.
  3. Make sure that all surfaces have reached the minimum application temperature noted on the tread tape
  4. Cut the tape to length and lay it down half an inch from the stair edge.
  5. Peel away the first inch of backing and press the exposed tape into place.
  6. Continue slowly peeling and pressing an inch at a time for the full length of the anti-slip tape, making sure there are no bubbles or wrinkles.
  7. Once the full length is in place, use a rubber hand roller to apply the last bit of pressure and complete the seal.
  8. Leave the adhesive to set for the recommended time before allowing access to the stairs.

Always make sure to double-check the manufacturer’s instructions for a full set of installation details.
