Porters Building Centers began as Kearney Lumber Company on June 7th of 1952. The company started in what was an abandoned horse and buggy lumberyard which was housing mules, hogs and chickens in Kearney, Missouri by Mack and Mary Helen Porter. Mack cashed in the revenue generated from three years of teaching math, science, and coaching. Mary Helen sold her new car. The company has grown to four locations, Kearney (headquarters), Cameron, Laurie, and in Missouri & Elwood, KS. Porters stock many fine products other than those that you would find in a typical Ace Hardware store. A Hallmark Gold Crown Store inside the Laurie & Kearney locations. Also brands like Yellawood, Stihl, Yeti & Big Green Egg. We also feature doors & windows from Therma Tru & Lindsay. We purchase our lumber direct from the mills with quality as our first consideration.
