Any local business that thrives for a century must be something special to the community it serves. For Gene Pedrotti, owner of Pedrotti Ace Hardware, the opportunity to support the people of Benicia and Vallejo, California is one he accepts with open arms.

Pedrotti Ace has been in business for over 100 years. Gene has been at the helm of the business for about half that time, and he knows the importance of giving back to the community. Gene and Pedrotti Ace support the Red Cross, the local children’s hospital, Benicia High School, and they also sponsor a scholarship program.

"The warmth that you get from being able to help somebody is just indescribable," said Gene. "It’s the essence of humanity."

Gene also supports the Vallejo Together Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides services including food and shelter for homeless individuals in the community. After meeting with Francie Macmillan, President of the foundation, Gene saw the need for an administrative position in the organization. Now, Pedrotti Ace funds the annual salary of the Executive Director.

"We fully recognize the presence that the Ace store and Gene has and what he has done for the community," said Mike Caplin, President of the Benicia Community Action Council. "It is so important to have people like Gene and this store in our community."

To celebrate 100 years of Pedrotti Ace Hardware, Gene threw a grand centennial party for the community. The event featured a parade, live music, and a special drone show up in the sky that evening. The goal was to produce something that was entertaining but also directly relevant to the community.

"It celebrated our community and the gift that Ace has been to our community," said Francie. "It was so much fun! It brought us all joy."

"You have an opportunity for a very intimate relationship that goes beyond customer and seller. I like to foster that relationship," said Gene. "We’re friends, and staging these parties is an excuse to have some fun. Folks know that any time they come in here, it’s going to be a good experience."

Gene is currently working with city officials to produce another drone show, hoping to go airborne for Ace Hardware’s 100th Anniversary in 2024!
