Justin Ace Heroes
It takes a special type of person to work at Ace Hardware. A servant heart, loyalty, and dedication are just some of the qualities that make a terrific employee at Ace. It's also the reason that so many veterans fit in and find success working there.
United States veterans are an important part of the team at Justin Ace Hardware, in Justin, Texas. As of 2023, three veterans have joined the ranks of Ace employees serving their community: Manager James Stevens and Associates John Frucci and Richard Spann. These veterans bring their unique experience and dedication to the job every day.
"They have stories, and they have insight and knowledge too. And they can just pull from that. And it helps our customers when they come in with questions," said Dee Marrow-Zane, Ace Marketing Manager. "They share that with the kids, and it helps the kids grow. It inspires them to join."
In addition to helping customers, the veteran employees at Ace have been a positive influence on their teenage coworkers. They have even inspired some of these young employees to serve their country in the military, including Dee's son Spencer. Since 2019, nine young people from Justin Ace Hardware have gone from working at the store to starting their military careers.
"When the first student enlisted, and then the next ones followed, we started to think about how we could honor them. How can we thank them," said Ron Curtis, Justin Ace Hardware Manager.
The Ace employees organized a series of banners that hang in the store to thank the veterans for their service to our country. The banners include the names, pictures, military branch, and service dates of the veterans. They also put up a wall of honor for the young people who are currently serving on active duty, with their names and pictures. An unveiling ceremony was held as a surprise for the veterans, with friends, family members, and coworkers in attendance.
The veterans at Ace appreciated the gesture. And while they continue to roll up their sleeves and help build the team at Ace, they also have a message to the young men and women who are currently serving in the military.
"Come back and see us. Bring your stories back to us!" said John. "Tell us where you have been and what you have been doing!"
